Michael Koster has played guitar and keyboards since youth, and took up bass and mandolin soon thereafter. In 1988, he built his own wire-strung Celtic harp and began studying with harper/harpmaker Chris Caswell. He has since built several harps for professional musicians, and also made the North African mandol on which he performs.
Michaell studied for five years under maestro Omar Ait-Vimoun of the Pacific Andaluse Conservatory of North African Music, becoming familiar with the rhythms and modes of the classical and folk music of the region.
Michael is the inventor of the Electrolyre. He performs on acoustic and electric harps, Electrolyre, guitar, bass, cittern, mandol, keyboards, and percussion.
